Tweakage Rendezvous 6

The Legend of Tweakage

The basic idea: Hey, we ought to get together and talk about camp... good idea! The basic idea was kicked around for several decades before the idea became a reality. In 2002, about 50 people got together for a fellowship at Camp CoBeAc. During those discussions, several folks mentioned how they "tweaked" a particular game or idea. Before long, everyone was involved in the sharing of all kinds of "tweakage" that they had tried. Some tweakage sounded like a great idea, and some were glad they didn't try that tweakage personally.

In 2004, about 100 people from 29 camps got together for Tweakage 2 at The Wilds in North Carolina. In 2006, over 100 people from 24 camps got together for Tweakage 3 at Camp Joy in Wisconsin. In 2008, about 130 people from 36 camps got together at Southland Camp in Louisiana for Tweakage Rendezvous 4. In 2010, 151 people from 34 camps met in the Mojave Desert of Southern California for Tweakage 5 at Ironwood. For many Tweakage has become a tradition that cannot be missed!

Tweakage Rendezvous 6: February 20-22, 2012

On Monday, February 20, 2012 about 150 people from 41 camps met at Alpine Bible Camp in Beckley, WV for Tweakage Rendezvous 6. Melody Peeler, Ken & Patti Perry, and Izaac & Kim VanderSchel attended this conference for sharing camp ideas.

Arriving just after a late winter storm that dumped several inches of wet snow on the area, they enjoyed the beauty of God's creation in the Appalachians.

Sessions included "Taxes, Forms, Insurance and the Law", "Group Games Idea Share", "Highlights of Outdoor Education", "Risk Management in Camping", "Bookstore & Concession Idea Share", "Dealing with Crisis", "Communication", and a host of others.  Ken Perry led a session on "Running Camp with Volunteers", something Peniel Bible Camp does well.

Melody Peeler met with head cooks from other camps and shared menus, recipes, tips, etc. She has a lot of new ideas that she's eager to try in Peniel's camp kitchen.

Returning home late Wednesday, the Perrys, VanderSchels, and Melody Peeler were "running on overload" with all the information received. In the days to come they will sort through their notes and narrow it down to several ideas that can be tweaked and used in the ministry at Peniel.

Pray for these folks as they plan for the 2012 camping ministry.

Don't Wait to Register Your Child for Camp This Summer...

Youth camp brochures were mailed out to all those young people who attended Peniel Bible Camp over the past 3 years. If you're interested in statistics, here they are:

Total number of brochures mailed out 2/13/12: 484

Number of brochure packets mailed: 334
        single brochures - 218
        sibling mailing (2 campers) - 87
3 brochures to the same family - 24
        packets of 4 sibling brochures - 5
(Families with 5 or more youth campers (2) were mailed in 2 separate packets)

Reminder: A $10 discount applies when multiple siblings register at the same time.

Early registration deadline: April 1, 2012

In April of last year we were surprised to find that several of our camps were just about full after the early registrations were received. Most of the families that ended up with campers on the early waiting list said that they had filled out the brochure when it was received in February but put off mailing it thinking they had plenty of time. A word to the wise: don't procrastinate and end up on a waiting list for this year!

Number of campers we mailed to:
        Junior 1 (4th grade only): 29
        Junior 2: 122
        Teen 1: 199
        Teen 2: 156
(Now we all realize that everyone of these campers won't be able to attend Peniel this year, but it's easy to see that the possibility of full camps does exist again this summer!)

Fill out your camper's registration form and mail it in TODAY!

PBC Focus: Newsletter / Bulletin Insert

We are pleased to announce that the Peniel Bible Camp Focus is back. Focus is our half-page monthly newsletter that is designed as a bulletin insert for churches.

Since 2010 we have been using Facebook and this blog exclusively to keep our friends updated with news of the OBF camping program at Peniel. We realize, however, that there are people in our churches who don't access these updates and we wanted to get this newsletter out again. We're thankful that it looks like we're "back in business" and covet your prayers for this venture.

The January issue was sent out last week and is available here

While some of the news and pictures are repeated on our blog, Facebook, and Focus, each of these has its own audience. We pray that as we share what the Lord is doing at Peniel Bible Camp that the Lord will raise up prayer warriors in our local churches and around the world.

Individuals or churches may request to be put on the mailing list. Once you are on the list, you can manage your own subscription. Subscribe here.
